London

We've spent time in London before, so we just spent a short time here, visiting friends. One of the things we always enjoy when visiting London is the local fish and chips; the fish is tender and crispy in a way you can rarely get in the U.S. It's certainly something worth taking in while there. This picture was taken at a local pub, and there was certainly a large pint of something highly alcoholic nearby.

We wanted to see a few of the things we missed on our last trip - Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Harrods, and the Tate Britain museum. Harrods' food areas are truly wonderful, but they do not allow pictures. It was room after room of food; just when you think it was over, you turn the corner and come to a full butcher and fishmonger, or cheeses and pates from around the world, or more tea than all the tea in..err.. never mind. It's worth the trip if you are in London.

The Tate Britain is a nice museum focusing on British artists. You can view the floor plan of the museum online, and it was a reasonably-sized museum (not too big to wear you out, but big enough to be interesting). The Tate Modern usually gets the fanfare, but the Tate Britain is a lovely gem.

We did make it to Westminster, only to learn it was closed for the afternoon. It was Commonwealth Day, and the Queen was coming to speak. So, this is the best we can do for now:

Maybe next time, we'll get to see the inside.

Right across the street from Westminster is Parliament and Big Ben. ("Look kids.. Big Ben! Parliament!")

As you can see, it was a lovely sunny London day!

We also took in Buckingham Palace.

If you look at the people and cars in front of it, you can get a feel of the size of the building. We didn't see any royalty, but we did enjoy the wildlife in the nearby garden.

(looks like Scott during his Water Aerobics class...)

One of the things we did was visit a local Sainsbury's, which is a large grocery store chain. We truly enjoy wandering around in grocery stores in other countries, and you see unusual things...

That's about all from London. We didn't spend long there, but we'll leave London behind after a trip to the local library for a quick shower.

Now, it's time to hop on the train, station 9 3/4, for the 7-hour countryside trip to Edinburgh, Scotland
